Installation will not totally process on the shutdown process. It causes an alarm to go off in the start up, and the start menu does not initiate. Have tried to shutdown and let Windows configure the updates but it does not complete.

Solution
Is there a chance you can go to Safe Mode with Networking without causing an alarm ?
If yes, do so. Then do a system restore. Pick a date or 2 BEFORE installing 4/10 updates as your restore point. That will nullify the attempted updates install.

Then still at safe mode, do a full virus scan.
Recommend you use Malwarebytes ( free edition ). It's the best in the business.

When al the above are done, go back to normal mode.

Please post back and we'll tackle the updates issues.

The maybe a problem while the update was downloading. Try to.....
oh well, davidhk already posted a comment. I was just about to suggest to restore and update again.

Good luck!

Here's an update. I followed your instructions. After system restore, the updates tried to install again. The siren went off and the same issues occurred. So, now I have my tech guy looking at it. Today, the computers in a computer lab I teach in began the updates. One pc kept rebooting and finally after the 4th restart, it must have corrected itself and all was well. Very frustrating
