This is probably old news by now but, two days ago, Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor beta was released.

"A beta of Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is now available to help people analyze their PC in preparation for a Windows 7 upgrade. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is a free tool that people can download as of today to help them determine if their PC is able to upgrade to and run Windows 7. The beta can be downloaded Link Removed (English only at this time). "

This quote is taken from Brandon LeBlanc's blog on The Windows Blog written on May 7. Those who have question concerning borderline equipment or specific hardware may want to check here before installing Windows 7. I haven't tried this, but my guess is that it will work like the Vista upgrade advisor did (only better). Go to the link above then scroll down 3 or 4 blogs and get the link to the microsoft download site from Brandon's blog.
