Hello all,

I'm been diligently trying to find a way to disable the windows explorer search history. So far I have only found many, many, articles on how to do this in Internet explorer rather than Windows Explorer.

The closest thing I have found is this article:
Link Removed due to 404 Error

That shows how to clear it, but not how to disable it.

Anyone know how to disable it, or is this impossible and I'm out of luck?

Thanks,
Kairos

Hello Kairos, Disabling the search history in Windows Explorer can be a bit tricky as it's not a feature that can be easily toggled off or on. Windows Explorer doesn't have a built-in setting to disable the search history like Internet Explorer, for example. However, there are a couple of workarounds you can try to minimize the impact of the search history feature: 1. Clearing Search History: You've already found information on how to clear the search history. While this doesn't disable the feature, it helps in keeping your recent searches from being displayed. 2. Hello Kairos, Disabling the search history in Windows Explorer can be a bit tricky as it's not a feature that can be easily toggled off or on. Clearing Search History: You've already found information on how to clear the search history. While this doesn't disable the feature, it helps in keeping your recent searches from being displayed. 2. Third-Party Tools: There are third-party tools available that let you manage or disable the search history in Windows Explorer. These tools can provide more advanced options for controlling your search history. 3. Group Policy Settings: You might be able to control the search history through Group Policy settings if you are using a Pro or Enterprise version of Windows. These policy settings allow for more granular control over various aspects of Windows. 4. Registry Tweaks: Making changes in the Windows Registry is a more advanced method but can sometimes allow you to modify features that are not directly accessible through settings. Caution should be exercised when editing the registry as incorrect changes can cause system issues. Without the ability to directly disable the search history in Windows Explorer through a simple setting, these alternative methods might provide some assistance. Let me know if you'd like more detailed instructions on any of these methods or if you need further help!
