Windows 8 Windows 8 system image compatibility

Hello everyone.

I would like to ask if these steps are possible:
1) Create a system image of Windows 7 on a Windows 7 computer.
2) Transfer this system image to Windows 8 on a Windows 8 computer.

Would it be compatible? Thank you in advance for your help.

No...simply put, because the hardware from the 7 PC is different from the hardware on the 8 pc. Different drivers, firmware and so forth.

Basically, a system image is created to repair the OS if the current state of the OS gets dorked up for that particular PC.

A work around is to use vmware... this makes both systems use a standard set of drivers | hardware and the V-machines can be transfered from one machine too another by copy and paste to a usb stick or file transfer over the network.

WHS has a nice how too for vmware basics, starting with this one.

Understand that this copy ability does NOT remove the need for a activation key with Windows systems... one key per system is the basic Windows rule but you can move that system around (to different harddrives or different host machines) and have as many copies of it as you want.
