Windows 7 windows firewall blocking ICS

Hello

I'm currently sharing my internet connection with another computer (both run windows 7). The other computer can only access the internet if the computer holding the dial up connection has windows firewall turned off. I tried to add an exception in windows firewall for port 80 but did not have any effect.

The local area connection adapter on the computer that's holding the internet connection has the following settings:

IPv4 Address: 192.168.137.1
IPv4 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.10.1
preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222

the other computer has obtain IP and DNS address automatically

Using ADSL modem is a Sagem F@st 800 to connect to the internet

no router used, just a simple cat-45 cable (i think that's the name of the cable!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

my first time on the forum, so a BIG hello to everyone and a happy new year!

Thanks!

Before looking atthe ICS problem there is something wrong with this config. The IP address, default gateway and subnet mask are not compatible. For a default gateway of 192.168.10.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255 the IP address must be of the foram 192.168.10.*

bump

anyone got any ideas? feel a bit naked without a firewall :)

could it be that i need to find out my other computers ip address and add it as an exception to windows firewall?

thanks

You cannot just "remove" a default gateway - it is needed to access LAN and WAN components. Please post a full listing of your ipconfig so we can see the whole picture.

just an update... when windows firewall is on, i get a "dns server not respondig" message when trying to resolve the internet connection on the other pc, (clicking on the red cross)
