We will need some more detail from you regarding the hardware in place.
HP laptop, doesn't actually tell us much, Model Name associated Model Numbers (letters, numbers and hypens, etc) Wireless adapter information, manufacturer, model name, model number, revision number. Wireless Router information, Manufacturer, Model Name, model number and revision number. All this information should be available to you through the vendor's documentation, or on the physical device itself, or in the case of the laptop typing msinfo32 into the search or run dialog box and hitting enter, and in the case of your router by accessing the routers built in browser information ususally by typing
http://192.168.nnn.nnn into any web browser (that's the actual ip address of your router, usually your default gateway.).
Attempt to use the network trouble shooter built into the Network and sharing center with only your wireless adapter enabled and see if that produces any information.
try changing your network location from public to home or home to work just to see if that helps at all.
Do not rely on information from the Windows Update Utility to tell you if your driver is up to date, it will almost always tell you it is, and may have already installed a problematic driver so you may want to see if you can roll it back. Obtain hardware drivers from your laptop manufacturer's website or else the specific hardware vendor's website.
use the command prompt and type
ipconfig /all > C:\users\johnsmith\documents\ipconfig.txt
change "johnsmith" to YourUserName use quotes around the path if there are any space (ipconfig /all > "C:\users\john smith\documents\ipconfig.txt")
that will add a text file into your document folder call ipconfig.txt please attach it to your next post.
