Since using the Win7 Beta (and now the RC), I've noticed that "wmplayer.exe" will occasionally run in the background without being explicitly started by the user. This wasn't much of a problem, but I thought it was odd. Since installing the RC, however, WMP often (>50% of the time that I am on my PC) hogs my CPU.

I have a dual-core AMD Athlon X2 4600+. Right now, specifically, "wmplayer.exe" is bouncing from 30% to 55% CPU usage, meaning that it has pretty much taken over 1 of the cores on my CPU. I've tried ending the process, but it comes right back within a few seconds.

I might be more forgiving of this if I understood what it was doing and why. Anyone out there know or have had a similar experience? FWIW, it's not thrashing the HDD, it's just hogging the CPU.

Thanks for your help!

As for extraneous programs I've installed: Firefox 3.5 (fresh, not and upgrade), Starcraft, Warcraft 3 (+TFT), iTunes, ID3-TagIt. The latter 2 I've installed since noticing WMP's appetite for CPU cycles -- so they're likely not the culprit. Everything else is a fresh, default Win7 (x86) install.

Gogogadgetearl,
You may also want to check with the source -- Microsoft -- directly for further responses from users. Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here Link Removed . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.
