Hello, suddenly on startup I started to get a message that I need to renew my license and in the activasion options it says that it will expire on January 7th. Its the first time I ever get this one. How do I fix it?

Thank you.

Hm, unless it's a pirated license for Windows 8 and through Updating Windows it found out, a genuine Windows license doesn't expire.
The particular operating system will stop getting Windows support after a number of years but the license doesn't expire.

Are you on an earlier version of Insider Preview? Preview releases eventually expire. What's the version and build number on your system?

edited: Sorry just realized you were on 8 and not 10. But if you are on a Windows 8 prerelease, it's pretty much the same story. If you never had an official license, the pre-release stuff eventually expires.

You can run the following from a command prompt to see the status of your license.

slmgr /dlv
