I'm stumped! My wife uses IE9 and her machine and has a problem that I can't solve having spent several hours trying. Link Removed - Invalid URL

Her friends send her links to their YouTube videos but they won't play --- hang up after starting for a few seconds. The same video will play fine on two other machines that are set up the same (I think). And same problem occurs with Firefox when I tried it so it appears to be a more general problem than something specific to IE9.

I've checked through the internet options, plus googleing for info, and have the right video players available for YouTube.

It seems like there may be a few things to consider in troubleshooting this issue with Internet Explorer 9 and YouTube videos not playing correctly. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Internet Explorer: Internet Explorer 9 is quite outdated, and YouTube may have updated its technology beyond what IE9 can handle. Consider updating to a newer browser like Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox for better compatibility.

  2. Update Adobe Flash Player: YouTube videos often rely on Adobe Flash Player. Ensure that you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed on the system.
  3. Check Browser Add-ons: Disable any unnecessary browser add-ons or toolbars that might be causing conflicts with video playback.
  4. Clear Browser Cache: Clear the browser cache, cookies, and temporary files to remove any corrupted data that may be causing issues.
  5. Hardware Acceleration: Disable hardware acceleration in the browser settings. Sometimes this feature can cause playback issues.
  6. Check Security Software: Antivirus or firewall settings could also be blocking YouTube videos. Temporarily disable security software to see if it makes a difference.
  7. Check Internet Connection: Ensure that the internet connection is stable and has enough bandwidth to stream videos without interruption.
  8. Check System Updates: Make sure that the operating system and all drivers are up to date.
  9. Test in Safe Mode: If possible, try running the browser in Safe Mode to rule out any third-party software interference.
  10. Compatibility View: Try disabling Compatibility View in Internet Explorer as it can sometimes cause issues with modern websites.

    Additional Notes:

    • Browser Compatibility: YouTube and other modern websites are optimized for newer browsers like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Using an outdated browser like IE9 may result in compatibility issues.
    • Video Formats: YouTube may be using newer video formats that IE9 does not support. Updating the browser or using a different one should help with playback.
Try these steps and see if they help in resolving the problem with YouTube videos not playing on Internet Explorer 9 or Firefox. If the issue persists, consider updating to a newer browser for better compatibility with modern websites. Let me know if you need further assistance!
