Hello,
I just installed windows 7, and have a few important questions.
1 - When a clean install is done, going from XP to 7 is there the folder
windows.old created, or is that only done when it is an upgrade?
2 - Every day, a few times every day I am having programs freeze on me.
I have to reboot to "safe". I check the events viewer and it says that the program hang.
So it basically tells me nothing!
3 - I also have been having the BSOD, sometimes with the nstor. Is that the Nvidia?
4 - When installing some of my proggies I have had permission denied on a few of the .dll/s.
I just wanted to make sure that it was ok to add the Admin to those dll/s.
I didn't change the system permissions just added the Admin.

I was possibly planning on reinstalling win7 if these errors and freezes continue,
unless someone has a suggestion or a tweak to possibly make them stop.

1. There will be a windows.old folder created if the user does not format the drive upon performing a clean install.

3. Could you post the event logs related to the BSODs?
4. If I understand correctly, giving the DLLs admin permissions should be fine. Be careful if you decide to Take Ownership of them though.

Don't reinstall Windows yet :), let's see what we can do first.

That 'may' give you an idea of what is going on with this weird machine.
I am so not used to all these errors as I never had any problems in XP.
But XP couldn't handle large drives and folders.

Are we having fun yet? NOT!

OK I 'tried' to do the chkdsk 3 times, and 3 times it froze.
I did run the scannow and this was the outcome:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I created a repair disc, so I am going to run a few things and see what happens.
This is getting very frustrating!

I checked the memory (which is brand new) and it was perfect.
Then while I was pasting the results in the text file, the dern machine froze again.
(sigh)

OK, I tried everything and everything froze, so I am going to reinstall win7.
From what I have been reading, this seems to be a MAJOR problem with win7, so I am not alone.
I just wish they would have gone easier on the permissions!
Everything that is touched has to have admin rights even drivers and that to me is a bit overboard!

I will be back tonight after I am reinstalled, cleanly this time!

OK I reinstalled windows 7 and something is majorly wrong!
I had a great install, nice and easy. Then after about 3 reboots and adding
necessary hardware, I get:
"DISK BOOT FAILURE"

I have NEVER been so dern frustated with any product in my life!
I had memory leaks as well with this reinstall. I don't know how to read most of the events in the events logs:

I am booting for the windows 7 disk.
I haven't rebooted since I did the repair.
I should try it I rekon...

This hdd isn't that old either :(

Well Mitch ...
I replaced my HDD and I have windows 7 perfectly running now.
I think ALL the problems I was having I can attribute to the bad HDD.

I REALLY appreciate all of your patience and assistance! :)
