Windows 7 Getting Apple Earbuds mic working on windows 7?

So i have apple earphones that came with my iphone 6 and this is the only form of a mic I have. I want to use it with skype on my windows desktop (not laptop), but when i plug it in the mic input, the mic inside the pause/play button doesnt work. the only mic that actually works are the ones inside the earbuds themselves. Why is this and is there any way i can get it to work? I bought a 3.5mm female to 2 male splitter thinking that would fix it, and it did make it so i can use them as a mic and headphones, but the buttons and actual mic still wont seem to work.

Theres this page Apple Headphone is Not Working which has an adapter that can convert the special iphone jack to standard 3.5mm trrs but i dont know if it would actually work for that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The first guess would be, as usual, drivers or software. You should look at that, but remember that not all devices work with all devices. Have you checked http://mashtips.com/apple-headphone-on-android-or-windows/

To use the set, you probably need the software. You may try Microsoft Update?
