Windows 7 Cannot boot from CD to format because I cannot use my keyboard untill Windows has started up.

Are you using a USB keyboard? Do you have Legacy USB devices turned on in the bios?

if not maybe get a USB to PS2 converter adaptor (usually about £1)

USB keyboard on Gigabyte motherboard?

likely you need a system bios uodate - you got the latest?
other than that as suggested before use the ps2 port

my monies are on it being a wireless keyboard - do the right thing and put it in the bin and get one with a wire on it

There is really no need to do this if he enables Legacy Support in the BIOS, but he will need to use a wired keyboard to do it.
