The desktop gagdets window will open, but when I drag one out or press add it doesn't work, if I drag it will look exactly like it did in the picture and dissapear and if I clikc add it will just not appear at all...

Try killing the sidebar process and then going to start menu, type sidebar, then add gadgets, see if that works.

i figured it out, had my icons turned off thnks for your help though, much appreciated
