I have copied my files from my old XP OS computer onto an external hard drive using Easy File Transfer. When I open Easy File Transfer on my new computer and attempt to do the transfer, the program says it does not see the backup file on my external drive. The file was named on my XP File Transfer program: USMT2.UNC. Apparently, this name is not recognized by the Vista OS. How do I get this to work?

The .DAT file within the USMT2.UNC folder should be named IMG00001.DAT
There should also be a file named "status". If you have these two files within
the USMT2.UNC folder, you should only browse to the "USMT2.UNC" folder (not the file) when using the wizard.
Alternatively, you could copy the ext HD contents to a DVD (spanning if needed) and try from there.

As I have not had to do this I can only point you in another direction. Worth looking at:
