In windows 10, I am you able to open any programs and if I can can open a dialog box, it won’t close. Nothing seems to be working. It all started with highlight, cut and paste functions not working. Thought it might be touchpad (although it wasn’t working by keyboard method either) so tried to update mouse drivers. After I restarted, nothing worked. Please help.

Solution
You can check the file system for errors like this:
- boot your computer into Safe Mode (see the video tutorial below)
- search for Command Prompt (just type Command in the menu search box)
- right-click on it and select run as administrator
- type sfc /scannow inside the command prompt and press Enter

Booting into Safe Mode:

You should also check for malware, install Malwarebytes while in Safe Mode and scan your computer.
