I run a laptop with Windows 7 ultimate, its set to Automatic Windows Update (Recommended) but for some reason several times a day everyday i get the prompt to change Windows Update to Automatic. Its already set to automatic! Why is it doing this and how do I stop the prompting?

You can try resetting Windows Updates
  • Press [Windows key + r]
  • Type services.msc
  • Stop 'Background Intelligent Transfer Service' and 'Windows Update'
  • Delete the directory 'C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution'
  • Restart the Windows Update service
Also be aware that Windows 7 no longer receives security updates through Windows Updates you have to manually download and install the security roll-ups each month from the catalog site Microsoft Update Catalog
