Win 7 update just hangs, although all other internet activity works fine. Is it possible to reinstall from my original DVD without deleting other software and data files ? I have done this in XP several times with no problems. But in Win 7 ? I've tried closing my firewall and my virus programs but this did not solve the problem. When I first got Win 7 the update process worked fine.

Hi Errol,
it is possible to re-install windows 7 without losing files ect.. Just pop the disk in the drive and when asked choose the upgrade method for installation.
Before you go down that route though why not try a system restore to an earlier time? Also you could try running the system file checker? Right click on command prompt, run as admin and then type:

sfc /scannow

Then press enter. It will then run through fixing any corruption (hopefully)
