Hello Again,
On occasion, when I double click on a desktop icon it comes up with the Properties window.
Can I fix it without a reboot?
Could it be the utility 'Save Desktop' which causes this. That utility repairs a desktop whose icons become scrambled.

Hi
I'm having a few problems finding settings because of the 3440 by 1440 resolution on my new monitor.
There was always a place to change the size of fonts used by Windows in it's applications. I can't find that.
If I have to I can use the slider to make everything larger but that makes some...

So i know windows explorer supports ftp and mapping to an ftp directory, but does ot support sftp?
I imagine it should, i mean other os's have been supporting that feature for some time now.
I just dont know how to find it. I know on ubuntu, i just type it in the location bar and it works. I...
I recently bought a new system and have been doing a lot of "file stuff", so I realized (again) how many features Windows (10 in this case) File Manager lacks. I have used Power Desk for many years, so I bought the "new" version PD 9) and have had several issues. The publisher (Avanquest/V-Com)...
I had uploaded a ton of photos from a vacation from my Iphone into various folders on my laptop. I wanted to make a copy of the folders so I could edit/delete some of the pictures to make a slideshow without disturbing the originals. When I copied a group of originals into a new folder, many...
I can't seem to find a Power Point Viewer for Windows 10.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Regards, Jim
Edit: When I open a PPS file, I get a message, "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher."
But, if I open the PPS Viewer in the Start...
Hi
Today my computer suddenly froze up, I was in the process of deleting some files in file manager, not anything unusual at all.
Unfortunately it wouldn't respond to Crtl, Alt, Delete, so after trying everything I could I did a hard shutdown.
When it rebooted it said that the boot sector was...

Hi Everybody,
I have something new happening in my Windows 7.
Three of the directories <Data> <MSOCache> and <Program Data> have tiny 'lock' icons attached to the top of the tree.
I'm guessing these mean that I can not open any of the files.
So far, it has affected all of the PDF manual...
Hi, I'd like to know if there is any way to create extra shortcuts for Win Explorer. I'll explain a little because it's hard to put it in the right context.
By shortcuts I mean using the double '%' sign so that I don't have to use the whole directory path. For example, shortcuts like %AppData%...
I have an elderly lady next door that just purchased a laptop with Windows 8. For some reason, she has lost the few icons that were on her desktop (i.e., desktop view as opposed to tiles). Using File Manager, I went to the Desktop folder, right-clicked on the few files there and selected Send...
Every 60 seconds or so, I am seeing a flickering in File Manager, and it freezes momentaraly.
I suspect it is a video driver problem and am running the latest driver for my nVidia GTX 460
Is anyone else experiencing this ?
Hi
I am using Windows 8.1 and just about getting used to it! However I cannot find a way to select multiple documents or pictures in what I know as File Manager. In previous versions of Windows you could do this by selcting one document then holding down the shift or CTRL (sorry can't...

I decided to give it a try myself, since it seemed like something that could be useful.

I need to have a shortcut in file explorer go down a list of three targets and pick the first that works. Since I need this for about ten folders, it isn't really efficient to use separate shortcuts and just test which one is working at the time. The problem is that the name of the target is...
I find it an extreme annoyance. I would like to find a file manager that "virtually" strips out the entire roster of about 30+ redundant and unnecessary folders, and simply leaves a minimalist file tree. I can create three or four sub-directories for my particular tasks without the insane...
Free Commander is my file manager of choice...at least it has been for a number of years now. However, since the last install of the OS it has become useless, because it freezes every time that I try to use it and has to be forced to close with the Task Manager.
I'm using the latest version...

Hi
Something that has been bugging me is that Windows 8 on my new computer is slow opening files and folders.
I don't mean that it takes forever but when I click on almost anything in File Manager or on my desktop the waiting icon appears and it takes a couple of seconds for anything to...
I'm curious because when using a program I have for cataloging certain files that are contained within a nested set of folders, I always find the last file added at the very beginning of the list in only one of the folders. In every one of the other folders, the files are arranged...
