In one of my tools (and in many other utilities out there) there is the option to specify a certain computer (in the local LAN) by computername.
So I tell the tool: Connect to remote computer "maggie" on port 1521 in LAN and do something....
Unfortunately the tool is not able to find...

I didn't find a hosts file in the SysWOW64 folder, but I did find one in the "usual" place windows\system32\drivers\etc and I see it's NOT set to read-only. But when I try to edit it with notepad and save as "all files" rather than .txt (to avoid notepad giving it a .txt extension) it fails to...

Not 100% on how this happened. The last thing I did was change my c/windows/system32/drivers/etc host file(I know, I probably shouldn't have done that) and then rebooted my computer. After reboot I got a few system errors, than ran a hdd defragmenter (system recommended). Now my computer is...

Ok, I've searched far and wide (mostly in forums relating to WAMP and APACHE), but I suspect this is related to Win7, so I thought I'd try here.
I've used WAMP for several years, with several vhosts set up on development machines using WinXP, then Vista, and now Win7. This *same* setup worked...

I am trying to access a network share at my workplace and am unable with the windows 7 machines.
With the XP machines I can hit \\x3400 and \\10.10.1.x and accessed shared folders. With Win7 I can hit \\10.10.1.x but \\x3400 gives me the ol' unspecified MS error 0x80004005.

Hello,
I've tampered with my hosts file when installing some software, which didn't end up working for me in the end. Are there any big issues with keeping my file in this state? It seems to be ok but I would like to return my hosts file to its original state, and all the tutorials online...
