Ok Cian do you know which update is causing the issue? There was an update recently that caused issues which is why I'm asking. See if you can find out via the windows update what updates it's trying to install.

The latest 8.1 update to reserve win 10

Did you try running the troubleshooter again?

May I ask are you using a registry cleaner at all?

Ok Ccleaner is an excellent application but windows does not need the registry cleaning and it usually causes more problems than helps any..

Try this, open an administrators command prompt and type:
sfc /scannow
Press enter and await results.

Again in the same cmd prompt type:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Press enter and again await results (patience please)

Hi All,

The company I work for has bought 6 Aspire Z1-601's.

I am having this problem also.

While running windows update, the PC's constantly cycle between the "Windows is applying updates" and the "Undoing Changes" screen.

I have tried the sfc scan, factory restore and the dism.

In some cases, the PC will boot up, apparently working fine, and after a couple reboots, will go back to "Undoing Changes"

I called Acer customer support, and they told me to follow this procedure:
- Update BIOS (I had already done that)
- Factory restore (I had already done that)
- Install updates one by one, rebooting a couple times between each update. (I have not done this. And since I am in my late twenties, I probably won't have time to complete this step before I die)

So, out of frustration, I am now going through the following steps:

- Factory restore, with wipe
- Initial configuration: Name PC, Create user, DONT configure WiFi <<== AT THIS STAGE NOW
- Reboot 5 times (Using a little .bat file)
- Uninstall ALL Acer related software, utilities, included Antiviruses, etc
- Reboot 5 times
- Disable Windows Restore (Speeds up installation of updates)
- Configure Wifi
- Install Critical Windows Updates
- After last one has installed, reboot 5 times
- Install Driver-related Updates
- Reboot 5 times
- Install other windows Updates
- Reboot 5 times.

Will post updates.

If it fails, my last pic will be me throwing a match onto a pile of gasoline-soaked acers

Lol!
Plus are you sure that rebooting 5 times is needed?

Regarding Acer software.. Unless it's a driver leave it off as many of these apps cause more problems than they are supposed to fix.

It probably is overkill, but since it is automated, I'm not really worried.

The reason I am doing it is because I want to make sure there are no post-update installations/configurations which could interfere with the process.

Am now here:

- Uninstall ALL Acer related software, utilities, included Antiviruses, etc

Currently halfway through uninstalling:

I can't do that because my sister does graphic design and stores every thing on there.
Wow!

Hope all goes well and post back if need be..
Would I be able to install insider preview and get official release?
