Windows 7 Analog Out of Range

Hey everyone, just joined the forums as I just tried to install Windows 7. I used the word "tried" because I did not succeed in doing so...

Background
I was using Windows XP SP3 on a very old computer when I decided to try out Windows 7, just for fun.
I knew the OS might be slower than XP, but I wanted to try it out anyway.

My Specs (please don't laugh)
Amd Duron 4 Mobile 1.30GHz
1024MB of RAM
No video card, just the default on-board one that came with the SiS motherboard.

HD and Operating Systems
1 - 40GB (Windows XP SP3)
2 - 75GB (no OS)
3 - 20GB (Crunchbang Linux)

The Problem
After the initial setup checklist (the one that starts with "Copying files...") checked the last item, my computer restarted itself and then my previous boot menu was gone and instead I found myself staring at the Analog Out of Range message my monitor gave me.

Solutions That Didn't Work

• Waiting a couple of minutes. I waited for 30.
• Connecting a different monitor. Same problem.
• Booting from a different hd. Same problem.
• Booting from the setup DVD again. Encountered the "Code 5" error.
  
• Fixing the boot manager using my old Windows XP cd. Can't : I had to supply the Windows 7 administrative password, which I don't have since the installation didn't reach that step yet.

Please, help!

Hi,

Unfortunately Windows 7 does not have the right driver for the Videocard but loaded some driver anyway during your attempted setup that was incompatible with the video device and the device was unable to display on the attached monitor. The problem is NOT in the Monitor but with the Video card being unable to communicate with the Monitor. Usually trying ctrl-alt-backspace at that nonsensical error screen can get you temporarily off the hook as to what to do. But the real solution is removal of that installed driver file. Since you cannot go forward in Win7 to undo its own hatchet job, only sulution is a Repair Reinstall of WinXP SP3 using your WinXP SP3 disc and then reformatting the partition you have messed up with Win 7 and abandon the plan to use this motherboard with its old devices to make a Win7 system. Since Win 7 would have already written its Boot files to your XP SP3 partition, I am not sure you would be able to resuscitate your original Working WinXP SP3 . If Repair fails then you may have to repartition and reformat the partition to get rid of the Boot file entries from the XP partition and Reinstall your WinXP SP3 system.
I am sorry I could not give your system a better prognosis at this time. I hope someone else can help you better to get your Win 7 on this old PC. Good luck and post back if you can.

I finally got 7 running! I still can't view the boot sequence or menus, though.
