Windows 7 Black screen, unsuccessful installation

I am having real trouble installing windows 7

I have tried a clean install about 5 times and it fails at the end of installation after it's starting services. There is just a black screen with a flashing cursor at the top left of the screen. Last night I left it to see if it was taking a long time but when i came down this morning it was still the same.

Sometimes it screws up the Xp drive so i have to reinstall that also.

I have XP on drive C which is NTFS and I have create a primary partition on D which is for win7

I have read about people having to disconnect a second monitor or whatever but i only have one monitor lugged into the VGA card so i don't think that can be it

I have made sure all the drivers are up tp date on XP and install from there doing and I've also tried installing straight from the disc but i get the same problem every time at the end of the installation.

I can't boot into safe mode becuase it says it cannot complete the installation.

When i came down this morning and restarted computer, it said windows didn't install correctly and was rolling back the installation.

No matter what I try doesn't work
