I am running Intel HD Graphics with ver. 10.18.10.4358 on Windows 10 Pro 22H2. I used to have a brightness slider before, but lately, it has disappeared. I have tried everything, to no avail. When I went to Notifications and Actions, I saw nothing in there to do with displays.

Help said:

Select the Start > Settings > System > Display. Turn off Change brightness automatically when lighting changes (if it appears), and then use the Change brightness slider to set the brightness level you want.

Well, it does not appear. Nothing in the control panel, as shown.

Here are a few steps you can try to address the missing brightness slider issue on your Windows 10 setup:
  1. Update Graphics Drivers:
    • Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues, including the absence of a brightness slider. Ensure your Intel HD Graphics drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the Intel website.
  2. Use Keyboard Function Keys:
    • Sometimes brightness can be adjusted using the function keys on your keyboard. Look for keys with a sun icon, usually found on the top row of your keyboard.
  3. Check Power Plan Settings:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.

    • Ensure that the brightness settings are correctly configured there.
  4. Reinstall Graphics Drivers:
    • Uninstall the current graphics drivers through Device Manager, then reinstall them. You might need to use the generic drivers temporarily to fix the brightness control.
  5. Reset Power Schemes:
    • Open Command Prompt as administrator and run the command:
      powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
    • This resets power plans to default, which might restore missing settings.
  6. Consider Third-Party Tools:
    • If the built-in adjustments are not working, consider using third-party software like f.lux for controlling screen brightness. These tools can sometimes offer additional control over display settings.
If none of these steps work, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance or checking if there are known issues with your specific hardware configuration. If you need more help, just let me know!
