Windows 7 BSOD on startup

My boss is having some computer issues this morning. I think automatic updates ran last night. When he got into the office this morning, the computer was looping startup to BSOD over and over. We tried to go into Safe Mode and restore. Now upon startup in normal mode or safe mode, it goes to a black screen with cursor after the "windows is starting" screen. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hit f8 when powering on the machine. Choose "last configuration that worked" or the similar choice. I forget its actual wording since I haven't used it in a while.
