Windows 7 Cannot install Windows Live Essentials 2012

Do you have the Netframework 3.5 installed?

Yes I do have net framework installed. I double checked in "turn Windows features on and off" and it's enabled. It's in a directory at C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

Still no solutions. The more information I post the less good it does.

Sorry but it's getting worse.

After I adjusted temporary directory permissions, The installer demands that I first install Microsoft .NET framework 3.0. That's correct 3.0. I've tried that and get an error message that 3.0 can not run on Vista. Well, as already mentioned, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. So every step I take makes things worse and drags me further away from a solution.

I need you to confirm your operating system.
Please open computer > click Start button > click Computer > at the toolbar, click System Properties > under Windows Edition heading, what does it say ?
Windows 7 or Windows Vista ?

sfc /scnnow is not all ways dependable IMO. I think you still have some missing or at the minimum corrupt system files. I would use your install media (ISO or the created repair disc's) and do a "repair".

I was asking you to do a disk check.
If you prefer to use suggestions that came from another forum, then, there is nothing I can do to assist you.

For your information :
Windows Vista has net framework 3.0 included in the operating system. No need to install it manually.
Windows 7 has net framework 3.5 included in the operating system. Don't need 3.0.

If somehow you were asked to install net framework 3.0, there is something very wrong with your computer.

I already noted that in the very first message. "The computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 . Windows was freshly installed on the computer a few months ago with no problem."

1. First here is the tutorial compiled by an extremely respected expert:

2. However, I would rather do it this way. A whole lot less complicated.

Start button > in the search box, type cmd > look to top left, right click at cmd.exe > click Run As Administrator > press Enter key.
You will now see a black and white screen. That is your elevated cmd window.
At the flashing prompt, copy/paste this ....... chkdsk /f/r
It is best if you copy/paste that above command line to avoid typo. There is a space between "chkdsk" and "/".
press Enter key.
The window will say something like...( I'm paraphrasing).... can't do it now, but will do it at restart. Do you want to do so, y/n.
Type " y " as in yes > press Enter.
Exit cmd window.

Restart your computer.
After that, the system will take over and begin doing disk check.
It will take a long while. Be patient and wait.

After that is done, try installing Windows Essentials again.

If that still fails, you will need to post the Disk Check log for the experts to go over.
I can show you how to get the log, but I am not qualified to inspect the log.

I am aware that you specified that in your original post.
However, your 3rd post with an error message " ..... 3.0 can not run on Vista." prompted me to ask the question.

Restating the situation with the addition of more reccomended steps that did not work.

The repeated error message - error 0x80040609 - source WLX suite

Installation stops when installing Messenger. There are no previous Messenger installations on the computer.

The computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 . Windows was freshly installed on the computer a few months ago with no problem.

Experts love asking for more details. Here they are, and maybe they willsave the time of asking me to take steps that will not work:

Windows firewall is turned on.

I've downloaded and tried running the offline standalone installer.

I'm running current DirectX.

All Windows Live directories and files have been removed. Uninstall advice does not work because the programs were never installed in the first place

I've downloaded the installation fail fixit and run it.

I've run Windows update.

I've found and zipped the installation log file but so far there's no place to send it.

There are no viruses or malware

Windows Media Player already is installed.

I've run msiexec /unreg
msiexec /regserver

I've run regsvr32 d33dx 10_42.dll

The Windows Installer service is running.

Here are two other alleged solutions that did not work.

Ran MSCONFIG and set it for only start up services. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Ran CCleaner twice. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

I started Revo Uninstaller. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.
I checked Control Panel. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.

I've used Regedit to remove all reference to Windows Live. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

So no one has to ask: I've run sfc/scannow. it found no problems.

Creating a new user account did not work.

The programs could not be instaslled in safe mode.

Reinstalled Direct X.

Later got an error 0x80040705 3dx10_442


Took full control of c:\program data/microsoft/identity crl

Edited the registry and removed all references to messenger and Windows live

Reran wlarp.exe, which said a previous installation of Windows Essentials needed to be uninsttalled. Clicked yes, and then a box with a green bar briefly and then disappered. Again, all Windows live folders have been deleted and references to messenger and Windows Live removed from the registery.

If you don't mind, give this a try.......
Create another admin account > logon to it > install Windows Essentials 2012.
If install is successful in new admin account, then your other admin account is corrupted.
If you still cannot install Windows Essentials 2012 in a new admin account, then I am out of ideas.

Already done and failed.

Remember the earlier mention of "Creating a new user account did not work?"

That was an adminstrator account, created by a Microsoft support tech during a remote control session. After he tried that he went through several other options, all which had previously failed.

So I've what you're supposed to do in a case such as this. I've researched online for solutions and posted extensive information on the problem. However, the only responses I've gotten already failed. It looks as if the problem is not with my computer but with the Windows software, which no one seems to understand.

You guys are way ahead of me in knowing what is going on with a computer, like miles ahead. Just a little side note
I just deleted Windows Live Essentials 2012 from my computer, I do not like it. Thought it would be nice to have all
my email accounts on one screen but it is to busy and not enough information to be useful to me.

Wilhelm1, the frustrating part of this situation is that no one "knows what is going on." If anyone knew, there would be no reason to post a long list of alleged solutions that did not work.

I hear you. Looks like when I deleted Windows Live Essentials 2012, it took my Adobe Reader out. Now I can't look at the
Dow Jones Ind. Averages the way I am used to doing and I can't seem to download and install Adobe Player either. What
a mess I am into, sorry I can't help you any. The more I play with this laptop, the more I am convinced it is possessed and best thing I can do is dump it and get a new one to mess up. LOL Knock on Wood, I have not had a minutes trouble with my desktop.
