Windows 7 cant change network security settings

Just replaced one of two computers in our wireless setup with Windows 7. Weve been problem free with our wireless setup for a year. However after setting up the wireless network via the win7 comp, can no longer get the existing XP computer to connect. it finds the conn and asked for the key. with key entered it says accessing connecting and then fails with a reconnect response.
my thought was to disable security but when i go to wireless properties and change to open, it disconnects. upon reconnection it is still wpa2 secure. Feel like since i set the new network up, perhaps its router issue. im completely lost. obviously missing something simple. feel free to bash me if this prob is completely remedial

Sounds like when you set up the Win 7 pc you (inadvertently or otherwise) made some changes to the router settings. If you connect to the router via the Win 7 pc and check the current router settings you should then be able to ensure that the settings on the XP machine correspond.
