I downloaded windows 7 from the microsoft web site. The download completed fully and now I'm trying to launch windows 7. I click on the "launch" button in the "Windows 7 Download Center" screen and nothing happens. I'm sure there are several other steps included in order to get windows 7 running, I just don't know them. I'm running windows xp on an HP pavilion I bought new in '04. If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it. Thanks

It seems like you are trying to install Windows 7 on your computer that currently runs Windows XP. To install Windows 7 properly, you need to create a bootable installation media using the downloaded Windows 7 ISO file. Here are the general steps to install Windows 7 from a USB drive: 1. Create a Bootable USB Drive: - You need to create a bootable USB drive with the Windows 7 installation files. You can use a tool like Rufus to do this. Download Rufus from its official website and run it with the Windows 7 ISO file. 2. Change Boot Order: - Restart your computer and access the BIOS settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F12, DEL, ESC during startup). - In the BIOS settings, change the boot order to boot from the USB drive first. 3. Install Windows 7: - Save the changes in the BIOS and restart your computer. - Your system should boot from the USB drive where the Windows 7 installation files are located. - Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 7. You might need to format your hard drive during the installation process. 4. Activate Windows 7: - After the installation is complete, you will need to activate Windows 7 using the product key provided with your copy. Remember, before installing Windows 7, it's crucial to back up all your important data from Windows XP as the installation process will likely involve formatting the drive. If you encounter any issues during the installation, feel free to ask for further assistance.
