This is an easy solution for people who have a desktop icon that they want to delete but can't. This solution is also great for people who don't want to download unnecessary programs to get rid of the icon!
Solution
1. Right click the icon you want to get rid of and press "cut".
2. Then hit Ctrl+SHFT+ESC(opens up taskmgr)
3. Navigate to the "processes" tab and 'end' the process "explorer.exe".
4. Now go the the "applications" tab of taskmgr.
5. Click "new task" - type "explorer.exe" - then hit ok.
6. Voilà! Your desktop should be back to normal!
