Windows Media Player is listed under possible default programs in control panel, and in the options dialogue that opens when I insert a DVD - but Windows Media Center is not. And there don't seem to be any file association settings within Media Center.

In order to play the DVD in Media Center, I have to open the program before I insert the DVD. Is that the only way? Thanks. (W7 RC1).

In Windows 7, both Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center can play DVDs, but the default behavior may vary depending on your settings. Here's how you can set up Windows Media Center to play DVDs without having to open the program beforehand: 1. Set Windows Media Center as the Default Program for DVDs: - Open Control Panel on your computer. - Go to "Programs" and then click on "Default Programs." - Click on "Set your default programs." - Look for Windows Media Center in the list of programs and select it. - Choose "Set this program as default" to make Windows Media Center your default program for DVDs. 2. Adjust AutoPlay Settings: - You can also set up AutoPlay settings to launch Windows Media Center when you insert a...

By setting Windows Media Center as the default program for DVDs and adjusting the AutoPlay settings, you should be able to play DVDs in Windows Media Center more conveniently without the need to open the program beforehand.
