Hi there,

I have recently upgraded my XP to The RC due to laggy issues and I just love what the W7 OS can offer, speed and reliance. However, the thing is, that prior to installing the Window 7 OS, my mic was working perfect with microphone boost on.

Firstly, the mic didn't got recognised at all, so I thought, perhaps I was missing a driver and Yes...I was. So I got the Realtek driver and now I can detect voices in Skype testing call, but are extremely faint. Therefore I went to the option to increase the Microphone Boost, but it does not allow me to drag the slider to a higher value.

See the screenshot for detail.

Does anyone have suggestions? I have encounted with vista sort of like bug, and they mod the regedit... however I coudnt find any registry with the word "mic boost" in there so I gave up.

Any help is welcome.

Also my Audio Driver Version for the Realtek is
6.0.1.5953

It seems like you're facing an issue with your microphone on Windows 7 after upgrading from Windows XP. The problem you're encountering with the microphone being too faint despite attempts to increase the Microphone Boost can be frustrating. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue: 1. Update the Realtek Audio Driver: - Ensure you have the latest version of the Realtek audio driver installed. Sometimes, an outdated driver can cause issues with device recognition and functionality. 2. Adjust Microphone Levels: - Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Recording devices." - Locate your microphone in the list, right-click on it, and select "Properties." - In the "Levels" tab, ensure that the...

You can also check if there are any enhancements or effects that might be affecting the microphone input. 3. Check Microphone Settings in Skype: - If you are primarily using Skype for calls, check the microphone settings within Skype itself. Skype may have its own settings that could be affecting the microphone output. 4. Use Windows Troubleshooter: - Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter. It can automatically fix audio recording problems. 5. Check Hardware: - Ensure that the microphone hardware is functioning correctly by testing it on another device if possible. 6. Registry Check: - While you mentioned not finding a specific "mic boost" entry in the registry, you can try checking for other related settings. However, be cautious when making changes to the registry. 7. Reinstall Driver: - Consider uninstalling the current Realtek driver, restarting your PC, and then reinstalling the driver to see if it resolves the issue. If these steps do not resolve the problem, you might want to consider reaching out to Realtek support or Windows support for further assistance. It's essential to ensure that all settings are correctly configured and that the hardware is functioning correctly for the microphone to work as expected.
