I can stand no more windoes defender automated schedules. My laptop CPU rockets to 70% for half and hour and the lappy gets boiling.
I have attempted to disable each entry in task scheduler however this will not stop defender to run randomly

How can I stop this?

PS - I want to keep real time protection

I don't believe you can. The service will generally recreate them. You could go to a paid AV such as Webroot that is king when it comes to the least amount of impact and has a very high success rate at detection, prevention and removal.

And. Why on earth would you want to do
I understand your predicament - I think, but those updates are vital to protect you. Do you have an extremely slow connection or...?

I concur with Neemobeer....try some different AV software and see how they work with your laptop. I'm currently testing the 30 day trial of Norton Security Deluxe and so far I like what it see. It's lite on the system (doesn't use a lot of system resources, runs quietly in the background and you can set it to your liking.
