I have a Surface Pro 3 and think that using Win 8.1 is easy enough already to switch between using it as a tablet vs using it as a "laptop". The SP3's screen is too small to really make use of Windowed Metro apps so I don't know if I'll like having Continuum automatically deciding whether I am using it in tablet or laptop mode. Will have to see how configurable it is. IMO there's a 3rd mode, "desktop" mode, which is when I plug my SP3 into it's dock where I have one or more full-size monitors attached. That's when I would want to run Windowed Metro apps. It would be great if Continuum could detect all 3 scenarios and configure itself the way I want it to work in each mode.

From the video that I watched, it looks to me like the Continuum feature detects the hardware change and offers the user the choice t0 switch the UI from touch to desktop mode or desktop to touch.

There is some mention of turning the feature off, although that would seem counter productive.

I would think that if it works as advertised then it would sense the hardware has changed from touch and would provide the option to switch UIs again.
Who knows.... if it makes it into the next preview or at least the RTM then it certainly represents a nice enhancement to overall useability for 2 in 1 devices.
