I have been unable to find an answer to this and I don't believe it is typical behavior of Windows 7.

I am a new user to windows 7 and have noticed that when I insert a cd/dvd or a usb thumb drive, an icon for it appears on the desktop and then dissapears once it is removed. I feel this is unnecessary as a window pops up allowing me to explore the drive. Is there a way to disable this feature?

Thank you.

Here's how you can disable the desktop icons from appearing when inserting removable media: 1. Open AutoPlay Settings: - Click on the Start button and then open the Control Panel. - In the Control Panel, look for and click on the AutoPlay option. 2. Adjust AutoPlay Settings: - In the AutoPlay settings window, you can configure how Windows handles different types of media when they are inserted. - Scroll down to find the section for Removable drives. - Select the desired...

By changing these settings, you can prevent the desktop icons from appearing and disappearing when you insert removable media into your Windows 7 PC.
