All most all of the programs that I try to downloaw using Windows 7 and IE8 32/64 bit fail at 99% with the following error message;

Unable to download file-name-here.......com from source-name-here-------.com

The operation timed out

The normal automatic window updates work OK with one failed. Lap top is only 3 months old with 4g memory 500g drive, Intel Core I3 ASUS M350 @2.27GHz.

I found 1,000's of other posts on other sites but most have different fixes so just a home user and don't want to mess things up...........

Thanks

It seems like you're experiencing issues with downloading programs on Windows 7 using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), with downloads failing at 99% completion. This can be frustrating, but there are several common reasons for this issue, and I can suggest some troubleshooting steps to help resolve it:

  3. Corrupted Downloads: Sometimes, the file you are trying to download might be corrupted. Try downloading the file from a different source or website.
  4. Clear Cache and Cookies: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can sometimes resolve download issues. In IE8, go to Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Browsing history > Delete.
  5. Update Internet Explorer: Internet Explorer 8 is an older version and might have compatibility issues with some websites. Consider updating to a newer browser like Internet Explorer 11 or a modern browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
  6. Check Download Settings: Ensure that your download settings are correct in Internet Explorer. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level > Scroll down to 'Downloads' section and ensure File Download is enabled.
  7. Update Windows: Make sure your Windows 7 is up to date with the latest updates. This can sometimes resolve issues with downloading files.
  8. Use a Download Manager: Consider using a download manager like Free Download Manager or Internet Download Manager which can help manage and optimize downloads.

    Additional Tips:

    • Before making any major changes, consider creating a system restore point so you can revert back if needed.
    • If you are uncomfortable making changes yourself, consider seeking help from a tech-savvy friend or a professional.
    Try these steps and see if any of them help resolve the download issue. If you need more assistance or have any specific questions, feel free to ask!
