Take care of the second problem and it will more than likely take care of the first.
Have you updated the device drivers for your network adapter?
You might go into the device manager, and even uninstall the device and let Windows find it again. But you may have a situation where Windows does not have a driver and you will need to download or use a supplied CD to obtain drivers.
Anti-virus and firewall programs can also produce strange results, so if the drivers do not help, perhaps disable the anti-virus.
Has the crashes always happened or just recently? Could you have gotten a virus?
