Windows 7 Frequent BSOD since reinstalling Windows 7 while browsing internet

Hello,

I have a self-built PC that I have been using for about 2 years. I have had problems with BSOD in the past and recently reinstalled my operating system (Windows 7 64 bit) about 2 weeks ago. In the past few days I have been getting nonstop BSOD, about 5+ per day although not all are being shown in the dump files according to BlueScreenView. Usually I am not doing anything when these occur except browsing the internet or listening to music on youtube. Sometimes I will have a game minimized in the background while I am doing work.

I have had these problems before but have not been able to put my finger on what is causing them. I have attached requested files with my computer specs, so if there is any advice you can give me or any insight into what might be causing these, please let me know. It is difficult for me to understand on my own because most errors are different according to the BlueScreenView reports.

Also, do not hesitate to ask if there is any other information I can provide to help.

THANK YOU!

Another BSOD just now labeled as "Interrupt exception not handled" with bug check code 0x0000003d from driver nvlddmkm.sys.

Please help, this is becoming unusable with BSOD occurring each hour. I am a student and need my computer for work.

Just a hunch, but check your video card for overheating. The last BSOD points to video - and the system not storing all memory dumps is suggestive of a hardware problem. Check:
- that the video card is securely seated in it's slot (and that the slot isn't dirty)
- that the power connector (if so equipped) is firmly seated
- that the fan is working
- that the cooler isn't clogged with dirt/dust and that air can get to the cooler from outside.

Your wireless USB X-Box controller is known to cause BSOD's on Win7 systems. There are many entries related to USB in the memory dumps' stacks (the memory trail for tracking BSOD's). Please un-install the software and remove the device from your system to test it. FYI - there are no driver updates available for this device. So if it's causing issues you must remove it.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thanks for the quick reply. I am happy to have some help with this insane series of BSOD. I will try these things as listed and report back if there are any changes. I also reseated the RAM into the other 2 unused slots (4 motherboard slots for 2 sticks of RAM) to see if it would help.

I updated the driver and unplugged the xbox controller as suggested. I did not get any BSOD for a long time, so I did not bother cleaning and reseating the video card yet.

Last night, I was playing a video game, which I play very frequently on this machine, and the game BSOD. Every time I booted the machine up and tried to reload the game, it would BSOD (I tried about 3 times). Eventually, the machine would not even boot without a BSOD.

I unplugged everything, cleaned my video card and computer thoroughly for dust, and reseated my video card. However, my computer still would not boot due to BSOD. Often these would say "Bad pool caller" although I did not record them all because there were so many.

I waited overnight and this morning I still had BSOD on startup, although I finally got it to load just now. I am not sure why it booted up this time, but I am uploading another error report now in case it BSOD soon. Let me know if there is any other information I can provide that may be useful and I will try to get it if my computer is able to boot up. I am not sure what to do or what the issues might be. I am running virus scans using malwarebytes, although I am not convinced it is virus related.

I think it may have actually been "Bad pool header" instead of bad pool caller. I am not 100% sure about that though. The virus scans turned up negative according to malwarebytes.

I'm fairly sure that it's a problem with the video card (although a motherboard problem is also possible).

Please run these free diagnostics (especially the video tests): Additional Hardware Diagnostics
Also run the free diags here: Link Removed - Invalid URL

The ultimate test is to try another video card. If you don't have one handy, try purchasing one from a retailer that will let you return it for a full refund if it's not needed.

Thanks again for the quick reply. I just ran the first of the tests, the FurMark video card test. I let it run with an alarm for 90C. The temperature peaked at 89C and there was no error after 18 minutes running at 1920x1080 resolution. I will post back with future results as some of the tests are quite time intensive.

Continue to check the cooling on the card. 89ÂşC is pretty high.

I just got a BSOD on the Prime95 test after about 2 hours of running. The BSOD error is listed on bluescreenview as "Kmode exception not handled" caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe (bug check code 0x0000001e). I had no games or anything running while performing this test. Was watching a youtube video when the BSOD came.

I am a little unsure of what results are expected for the FurMark test. Do you want me to repeat it or continue with the remaining tests? Also, do I want to run MemtestCL or MemtestG80 or both? I am unsure of the difference.

EDIT: I did a repeat Prime95 test just now and had a BSOD within minutes of starting it. "System thread exception not handled", caused by mrxsmb.sys, bug check code 0x10000007e. Again, I was watching only using a browser during this time. On restart, I got another BSOD while Windows was loading (similar to my previous post). The error message for that BSOD does not appear in BlueScreenView and it disappeared too quickly for me to write down any data about it. I restarted another time and this time it DID startup. HWMonitor shows what appear to be reasonable temperatures for my computer on restart, 30C for CPU and 43C for GPU.

With FurMark you look for high temperatures - or for problems with the displayed images.
As for the other tests, run both. Look for high temperatures or video problems (I'm not real familiar with the details of the tests - just the functioning of the video card).

If you ran the Prime95 Blend test, then the issue is most likely with your RAM.
To double check, please run this memory diagnostic: Link Removed - Invalid URL

MemtestCL said I had no errors during the run. MemtestG80 ran then autoquit, but did not display any errors. I assume this is also fine even though it did not show a final screen confirming there were no problems.

I will run the Memory diagnostic test overnight tonight.

Have you run the tests after Step 6 to see which stick/slot is involved?

Here are my results so far. I have 2 RAM sticks (A and B) and four RAM slots on my motherboard (1-4).

RAM A in slot 1 + RAM B in slot 3 = error
RAM A in slot 1 = no error
RAM B in slot 1 = no error
RAM B in slot 3 = no error
RAM A in slot 3 = error

This test has so far been somewhat inconclusive to me so far. I am going to retest RAM A in slot 1 and RAM B in slot 3 to try to determine if RAM A or slot 3 is the culprit. I will post back with the results. Let me know if you have any other comments or suggestions about this.

Is your RAM warranted against failure (most major brands are lifetime warranted)? If so, return it for a replacement and test that.

Ask to return both - the worst they can say is no :0)

So I have been trying to narrow down which RAM stick is the problem so I don't have to try to send back both sticks and be left with no functioning computer for a week or two while they get replaced. I have been trying to run my computer on each stick of RAM separately to further determine if just one stick is faulty.

On stick A I got a few BSOD in the first couple days trying to run it alone, so I think stick A is likely faulty. I have been running on stick B for the last week or two and have gotten two BSOD (significantly fewer than before, but still too many) which have been the same error.

I was hoping you could look at the error and see if this is likely because of the RAM or if there is something else which might bestill causing BSOD. I attached another SF diag tool report. The error has been page fault in nonpaged area, due to ntoskrnl.exe both times.

I would like to know if there may be something other than RAM which may be causing these BSOD now that I'm running on only one stick or if this stick of RAM is also likely bad.

Thanks for all your help.
