I'm trying to change the size of the font used for icons. But only for icons. Everytime I change it it also changes all other explorer font sizes including the start menu and explorer listings. Why? Does anyone know??? I've attached a screenshot of where I'm changing the icon font (in Personalize) from size 10 to 11.

Any help would be great. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Solution
It seems like you are experiencing an issue where changing the icon font size affects other font sizes in Windows Explorer, including the start menu and explorer listings. This behavior is due to how Windows handles font scaling settings. In Windows 7, changing the icon font size in the Personalize settings impacts various elements because Windows uses the same font settings for different components, including icons, menus, and listings. Therefore, adjusting the icon font size in the settings affects the overall font scaling within Windows Explorer. To address this issue and change the icon font size without affecting other fonts, you may need to customize the system using third-party tools or registry modifications, as Windows 7 does...
To address this issue and change the icon font size without affecting other fonts, you may need to customize the system using third-party tools or registry modifications, as Windows 7 does not provide built-in options to alter individual font sizes for specific elements like icons. One possible solution involves modifying the registry settings for icon font size directly. This method requires caution as editing the Windows registry can cause system issues if done incorrectly. If you are comfortable making changes to the registry and are willing to try this method, here are some steps you can follow:
  1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
  3. Look for the "IconFont" entry on the right pane.
  4. Double-click on "IconFont" and change its value data to the size you desire (e.g., from 10 to 11).
  5. Click OK to save the changes.
  6. Restart your computer to apply the new icon font size. Remember to back up your registry before making any changes and proceed with caution. If you are uncomfortable modifying the registry, you can explore third-party tools or themes specifically designed to adjust icon font sizes independently. These tools can provide a safer and more user-friendly way to customize font settings without impacting other elements. Feel free to try these suggestions, and let me know if you need further assistance or have any other questions.
