I keep getting the following message whenever I open an app ( such as Mail ).......
Link Removed
I could change it to 1024x768 and it worked.
But if I exited from the app and then came back later, same error message reappeared, and I had to change resolution again.
Is there anyway I can make the change stick ?

Holy crap....yours is one of the worst case's I've seen. On the bright side....8.1 will be free to those who have windows 8 all ready.
Question: Have you checked for a mobo chipset update and a BIOS update? If not, I would update the chipset and update/flash the BIOS. Freaking hell, it can't hurt...

If you are running Norton Anti-Virus then you need to uncheck Norton Tamper Protection. Don't know about other anti-virus programs. Once unchecked you can run system restore with no problem.
On the contrary, I had nothing installed. I even uninstalled Malwarebytes before I did a system restore.
I am doing a 2nd re-install, it's getting to the end now.
If I still encounter issues, win 8.1 will end up in trash can.

Final update:
I am now posting this reply using Win 8.1 pro preview.
Finished last night (or early this morning) reinstalling win 8.1 into VMware Player for the 3rd time.
I even downloaded a fresh copy of ISO for installation.
Results :
No more issues except this "sign in" debacle.......
I can sign in ONLY if I have selected a particular forum.
I cannot sign in after I have logged on to this WindowsForum.com site.
An annoyance I will have to live with.
