I've just finished installing IE9 on my windows 7 32-bit machine. It appeared to complete ok- no errors or warnings in the event logs.

However when I try to run IE9, the window opens, the blue loading circle spins, "not responding" appears, then the window shuts without anything appearing in the browser window.

My machine is a decent spec, and I've had no problems with IE8, or any other browser before.

Here are the things I've tried which didn't help:

  • Installing IE9 via Windows update, instead of manually
  • Running in "no add-ons" mode
  • Disabling all add-ons manually
  • Running the OS in safe mode
  • Temporarily disabling firewall/antivirus
  • Resetting IE settings in "Internet Properties"
  • Ticking "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" in "Internet Properties"
  • Link Removed - Invalid URL
  • Running program as administrator
  • Installing SP1
  • Installing all critical/important windows updates
  • Logging into Windows as different user
  • Downloading the installer using a different machine (in case installer was corrupt)
I am now officially out of ideas. Anyone got any more?

Check Event Logs: - Review the Event Viewer for any specific errors related to Internet Explorer that might provide more insight into the issue. 4. Reinstall Internet Explorer 9: - Uninstall IE9 and then reinstall it from scratch. Sometimes the installation might not have completed successfully. You can uninstall IE9 from "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel. 5. Check for Compatibility Issues: - Ensure that Internet Explorer 9 is compatible with all your system components, especially graphics drivers. Update your graphics drivers to the latest version. 6. Create a New User Profile: - Create a new user account and try running Internet Explorer 9 from there. This can help determine if the issue is profile-specific. 7. Clean Boot: - Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This can help identify if a third-party application is causing the problem. 8. Run Internet Explorer in Compatibility Mode: - Right-click on the Internet Explorer shortcut, go to Properties, and navigate to the Compatibility tab. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select a previous version of Windows. 9. Use Compatibility View: - In Internet Explorer, try enabling Compatibility View for the websites that are causing issues. Give these additional steps a try and see if any of them help resolve the issue with Internet Explorer 9 on your Windows 7 machine. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any other questions!
