Windows 7 I'm locked out of my flash drives...

I can get my usb ports to work with printers, my iphone, etc. However, when I plug in a flash drive, autoplay pops up. I click 'open folder to view files.'
It prompts me that I do not have permission to access the files. To gain access, use the security tab, which does not exist under the link that is listed.
I opened the command prompt as an admin, typed in the drive name (G:), and it said access denied.
I also ran drivecleanup.exe, which did not solve the problem.
My laptop pc is approx 6 months old, and I have only ever used it at home. No office network, etc...
Any ideas?

Is there a physical switch on the USB drive, some have them....a lock and unlock symbol?
