I am not condoning pirating Windows or anything, and I bought my copy during the discount upgrade period, but I had to go from Vista Ultimate down to Win7 Home Premium just because there was no way I was spending that kind of dough after being screwed on Vista Ultimate.

If Microsoft wants to reduce the pirating of their software, they should lower their prices. We are in a messed up economy and these companies are fleecing the public because they know we "need" our OS fix.

$59 was an awesome price for the upgrade.. $120 not so much. The $200+ to upgrade to Ultimate was a laugh.

My two cents.. plus interest.. carry the one...

Why would you want to buy something as overpriced as Windows. It costs like 400 dollars for something that could cost 30. and still be making a profit.

It wasn't an arrogant answer, it was simply stating the facts as I see them regarding pirated versions of Windows.. ;) My apologies if it seemed arrogant.. :)

Well I took your post as my version is better then yours because I payed for it. Also you lied saying that the only way to fix it would be to buy it, even though everyone knows a new crack/fix will come out. Sorry if I mistook that though. :p

I'm sorry, but that ideology is just horribly unintelligent.

With that mentality its like saying "Don't like the world, well just kill yourself." Or "Don't like a law, get the heck out of my country."

My opinion is that they should drop the price or expect piracy. I don't think there would be a 1/4 of the people pirating 7 if the price was something like 30 bucks. We aren't all rich ya know.

No, that's not at all what I was saying. I do not condone the use of pirated versions of Windows.. I also don't condone the use of cracks on Windows.. That's all I was saying... ;) And I'm sorry but from the above statement you just made it sound to me like you do condone the use of pirated/cracked versions of Windows..

I really don't see how I lied by saying that the way to solve the problem would be to not use an illegaly cracked version but to go out and actually pay for the software...

Anyway, if you don't agree with my opinion that's fine, I never said you had to.. ;) All I was doing was stating mine..

    Sorry for the misunderstanding then.

And yes I do condone piracy, but not as a form of thievery. More in the idea that it should be free to begin with and your just correcting an imbalance. Ideally for me everything would be free, but with an option to donate to the company/individual who made it. I also don't believe in copyright either. XD For example anything I create(Music, videos, images, lyrics, papers, anything) I allow anybody to use for whatever purposes without permission or crediting. So that's really what couples together and is why I condone piracy.

It's pretty well known that often the cracks used to bypass said protections often have a hidden trojans or to a lesser effect break something further down the road that may be unexpected, even when they don't it's completely down to you if you want to take the risks....and thats what free will is all about...just don't yell too loud when it blows up in ya face, or make a fuss when apps or games won't run without BSODs etc...

That said I dont have any problem using cracks on games to save wear and tear on my original dvds, or in some cases they can actually fix issues that said protections can actually cause BSODs etc due to DRM etc. So...I guess it's a nessassary evil that without it we'd all be at the mercy of mega corps that turn out buggy crap with misleading promises in a 1982 style...lol

yes its all true but not the trojan bullcrap.
any antivirus will think that crack program has virus in it because not every code is added to exception list by antivirus developers. I coded keygen my self once and it was detected as trojan so i gotta say screw antivirus

on the other hand new craks are being released as soon as new updates come, sometimes even sooner if release is leaked and it will because crackers have their inside people in MS as well

Ok this is probably my final thoughts on this subject, but i cant see the difference between stealing software, by using a crack or patch and going into a shop, grabbing something off a shelf, putting it under my coat and walking out without paying for it.

Both in my opinion are bad and against the law.

    Down with Piracy

Drew, please don't confuse me with the Billy09 pirate. Anyway, i appreciate what you have put forth in this forum. Windows7 is great as far as i am concerned. I have the Win7RC version and have pre-ordered Win7 Premium from a distributor. Yes, a great lesson for billy09 in learning that piracy is not the way...;) Cheers and beers from billyc99

I don't think it's as bad as all that! They are both legitimate alternatives to Windows. Besides, I don't think too many Mac/*nix users would appreciate the thought that they had 'killed themselves' by not using Windows :D

Well they both are against the law yes, but the fact is that a lot of the people who do pirate software would quite happily walk into a shop and lift what they wanted off a shelf if they thought they could get away with it. That's the difference to me, that people are happy to pirate Windows because the chance of being caught is extremely small, and the only punishment they get is a 'this is not a genuine copy of Windows' message.

You live in hope that a multi-billion dollar corporation makes a crack-proof version of it's OS? Microsoft has already been fined for monopolising the market and using underhanded tactics. Do you honestly believe that if it is ever made crack-proof that they will magically drop the price to a reasonable level? I seriously doubt it.

it seem that all the users here is so "honest" with legal pre order windows 7 "bla bla bla" edition
telling why genuine is good and piracy is bad BUT i sure that maybe 20% in all this post have original windows
    all i'm wanna say its:
    LEAVE THE KID ALONE
OK so he have on 3 computers cracked windows!!!... SO WHAT!!!!! let him install on more 20 computers
i think that is enough to tell him that is not the right place for warez
but some "bleeding heart" starting to speak like sh*t about genuine windows is better

i'm sure that the gay that telling about the real bios slic mod have it on his computer

p.s. i have the RTM version of windows 7 with the bios mod on my motherboard and it's working fine
i'm not saying this to show off just not to be a liar

If I ran MS I'd hire some hacker types and make updates with things to really mess up cracked versions when they try and update even with stand alone updates. Like I said if you don't like MS get Mac or Linux you wait for Google's dream system. So you think if you want a new Corvett you can go and rip it off from the dealer because the price is to high to suit you?

No because if you went and ripped off a corvette the dealer would have one less corvette, however if you rip a copy of windows, Microsoft still has an infinite number of copies, because it isn't a psychical object. :p

Well, it seems Microsoft has a heart, for those in university or college. You can get Windows Home Premium or Professional for $30 US. It is currently only being offered in the US, but soon us here in Canada (Oct. 22), and our cousins over in Britain (Oct. 1) will be able to get our hands on it for this price. They must assume a good chunk of people who are pirating in the free-world are university kids.. I don't care why they did it; all I know is I will get be getting a copy of Windows 7 Pro now for cheap.

That's not different than any other time. The price might be a bit lower.
But Students always get a discount from the college stores.
If you are not a student, then this license it not legal for you to use.

However, they are to uninstall and purchase a full license once they are no longer a student.

This also, people believe to be a gray area of authenticity.
