Windows 8 Laptop screen turns off sooner than supposed to

I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite C55-A). The screen is set to turn off after 25 minutes, but after I lock it, it shuts off in under a minute. Why?

Could you expand on what you mean by 'after i lock it'? Thanks.

The Start and L keys are what I use to lock the laptop. The screen dims then shuts off. I use a TV as an additonal monitor and it says "No signal" until I move something around to get the screen back on.

Yeah that happens on my pc too check out this page, Windows 8 does this by default its normal behaviour

If this computer was originaly windows Vista. You might have incompatible ram. Had a dell studio originaly with windows Vista. Tried windows 7 and windows 8.1 same problem. Changed the ram viola all gone. The ram that was in the computer was weird.
