Windows 7 Microsoft Security Essentials dosent start

guys i use windows 7 ultimate x86 and i had installed MSE on my desktop before 6 months it was working fine till today but suddenly today it is not showing in the taskbar near the right corner of screen,and whenever i try to double click its icon on desktop then it shows up for a second and then vanishes and dosent start at all,kindly help as soon as possible as all my work is stranded till it gets resolved thanks in advance.

after a ms update other day mine didn't start either. I opened it from start all programs and let it do quick scan. rebooted and it came up like it supposed to. can't remember which update that was
