Hi Experts

I have upgraded my laptop to a new one.

Both laptops have OS win 7 Ultimate.

On my old laptop I was using outlook 2010 for my wok email ( IMAP not POP ) ,,,,what I did on my old laptop I backuped up the whole profile from the path below

C:\Users\forum\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Then I copied every thing into the same path above on the new laptop.

Every thing is working fine (sending and receiving emails) ,,,,but auto complete email addresses are not functional ,,,,,???

How can I make it work again ?

Thanks

It seems like you've successfully transferred your Outlook profile to your new laptop but are facing issues with the auto-complete email addresses not working. This issue is common when moving profiles between systems. Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

Fixing Auto-Complete Email Addresses in Outlook 2010:

  1. Rebuilding the Auto-Complete Cache:
    • In Outlook 2010, the auto-complete feature stores addresses in a file with the .nk2 extension. If you copied the profile, the auto-complete cache might not have been included.
    • You can try rebuilding the auto-complete cache by typing a few characters in the "To" field to see if Outlook starts suggesting addresses. If not, proceed to the next steps...

If not, proceed to the next steps.
    []Locate the Auto-Complete Cache File:
    • Outlook 2010 stores the auto-complete cache in a hidden file named Outlook.nk2. However, in newer versions of Outlook (2010 and later), the cache is stored in the mailbox itself.
    • To locate the auto-complete cache file, you can follow these steps:
      • Close Outlook.
      • Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.
      • Enter the following path: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Outlook and press Enter.
      • Look for a Stream_AutoComplete_0_[random characters].dat file. This file contains the auto-complete data.
    [
    ]Import Auto-Complete Entries:
    • In Outlook 2010, you can import auto-complete entries by following these steps:
      • Open Outlook.
      • Go to the File tab.
      • Click on Options.
      • In the Outlook Options dialog, go to the Mail category.
      • Click on the Send messages section.
      • Click on Empty Auto-Complete List and confirm.
      • Start typing an email address in a new email to rebuild the cache.
  2. Third-Party Tools:
    • If the above steps don't work, there are third-party tools available that can help recover auto-complete addresses from the old computer's profile backup. One such tool is NK2Edit.

      Additional Tips:

      • Confirm the Path: Ensure that the path to the Outlook profile you copied is correct and that all necessary files have been transferred.
      • Run Outlook Repair: You can also run the Office repair tool to check for and fix any issues with the Outlook installation.
By following these steps, you should be able to restore the auto-complete email addresses functionality in Outlook 2010 on your new laptop. If you need further assistance or encounter any issues, feel free to ask!
