Windows 7 My desktop icons disappeared and cant get them back

when I was logging on to my computer today I accidentally logged on to my computer under a blank account. So I rebooted then I logged under the correct user account and all of my desktop icons are gone.

I gone to View > Show desktop icons and all of the other options but they still don't show up. I havent downloaded any new programs in about the month.

I just don't know how to get them back. can anyone help me?

do your icons display in safe mode accessed by tapping F8 during boot up ?

I'm guessing there was an error with explorer.exe. This is usually an easy fix. Open up the control panel, and then click File then new task. Type in explorer.exe in the blank field and that should solve your issue.

If this doesn't work then that means you may have something corrupted in Windows that requires some messier tactics. I would suggest running System File Checke in this case. It will check for missing and damaged Windows files and repair them. You can run it by going to Start, run, typing CMD and then typing sfc /SCANNOW.
