In windows 7 windows explorer is there a way to get rid of that large status bar, the one thats above the standard status bar. when i right click on it i can only adjust the size, the "remove properties" is grayed out so i cant select it.
Any Ideas?

Lets see now, Its been awhile since I've needed Windows 7 Explorer.......Right click the middle of the grey-black bar at the bottom. It should bring up a window, first listing is Toolbars. At the bottom, Left click Properties. The window should say taskbar. Check auto-hide the taskbar. If you run your pointer over the area it should briefly show the Taskbar. I think you want something else ?

Do you mean the Details pane, second from the bottom?

In the toolbar at the top click Organize -> Layout -> UnCheck "Details Pane".
