Have two computers, one is a tablet running Vista on a domain network, the other is my desktop running W7 on a home private network. I was FINALLY able to connect to my Desktop shares but only by typing the IP address of the Desktop shared folder from the Vista tablet. Both computers can see each other in the Network window but clicking on the other computer always brings up the "Network path not found" (on either computer). I can't connect to the domain bound Vista tablet from my W7 desktop but that isn't a high priority deal. I have mapped the shared folder from my Desktop by IP address and all works for now but I'd like it to work by just clicking on it in the Network window.

Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Solution
It seems like you're facing some connectivity issues between your Vista tablet and Windows 7 desktop within your network. Here are some troubleshooting steps and suggestions to help you resolve the "Network path not found" issue and enable seamless file sharing between the two computers:

It seems like you're facing some connectivity issues between your Vista tablet and Windows 7 desktop within your network. Here are some troubleshooting steps and suggestions to help you resolve the "Network path not found" issue and enable seamless file sharing between the two computers:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Network Discovery and File Sharing Settings:
    • Make sure that Network Discovery and File Sharing are enabled on both the Vista tablet and Windows 7 desktop.
    • Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings to verify these settings.
    []Workgroup Configuration:
    • Ensure that both devices are in the same Workgroup. You can check and set the Workgroup name in the system properties settings.
    [
    ]Firewall Settings:
    • Configure the firewall settings on both computers to allow file sharing. You may need to create exceptions for file and printer sharing in the firewall settings.
[]Enable Guest or Specific User Account:
    • If you are accessing shared folders without a specific user account, make sure that the Guest account or a specific user account with appropriate permissions is enabled.
    [
    ]Check Network Permissions:
    • Ensure that both computers have the necessary permissions set up for sharing files and folders. Verify that the shared folder has the appropriate sharing permissions set.
    []Use UNC Path:
    • Instead of relying on the Network window, try connecting to the shared folder using the UNC (Uniform Naming Convention) path directly. For example, \IP_Address\Shared_Folder.
    [
    ]Network Reset:
    • If the issue persists, you can try resetting the network settings on both computers. You can do this by running the network troubleshooter or resetting the network stack using command prompts.

      Suggestions:

    • Static IP Address:
    • Assign static IP addresses to both computers rather than relying on dynamic IP assignment through DHCP. This can help in maintaining consistent network connections.
    • DNS Configuration:
    • Ensure that DNS settings are configured correctly. You can set the DNS server address manually to improve network resolution.
    • Network Cable or Router Check:
    • Verify the physical connections, such as network cables and router settings, to ensure there are no issues with the network hardware. By following these steps and suggestions, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the connectivity issues between your Vista tablet and Windows 7 desktop for smoother file sharing.
