Windows 7 Office 2007 does not Install

I am having a similar problem. This is what I posted over at the TechNet forums with absolutely no response.

So I loaded up a fresh install of Windows 7 32 bit and I just tried to install Office 2007 Small Business edition. I am able to load up the install process, enter the product key, prove that I have a former edition of Office, customize the install process, and then I get this error message \"Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 installation did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience.\"

Any ideas? Surely Windows 7 works with Office 2007?

One thought . . . how many of you are using an upgrade version of Office 2007 vs. a full version. I am using an upgrade version. Could that be part of the problem?


Update - I think I found a solution.
Well at least it worked for me . . . I copied all the files from my DVD to a folder on my hard drive and I was able to successfully install it from there. While I was at it, I slipstreams SP1 as well. Here's a guide to how to do it. Microsoft Office 2007 SP1 Installation & Slipstream Guide

I have been racking my brain for a week now trying to fix it...Finally I downloaded a fresh ISO from Microsoft of Windows 7, Reinstalled it and installed Office 2007 FIRST and it worked fine...I think the Windows 7 installer sometimes does not install the .NET framework properly maybe...

Shame that OOo was the first thing I tried before MS office, and it crashed on the installer.

Anyways, here's how I installed O2007, after getting series of 1935 errors (got errors on Enterprise and Ultimate, now installed Ultimate with this trick, try with your own risk!):

1)Set the compatibility mode to WinXP
(2)Run as administrator?)
3)Fix folder rights as it whines about them
4)Start using your freshly installed O2007
(5) didn't try this myself, but you could change the changed permissions back to default)

I am aware that the folder rights change might fuck up your system real bad, and running it with WinXP compatibility mode could propose some problems.
This worked on my 64bit Win7, although after installing some updates, I'm with a broken system now

EDIT: DON'T DO THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT THE F*CK YOU'RE DOING. That said, I'm off to reinstall my win7.

Are you sure your install DVD is fine. Also if you are trying to install a version obtained from -- (we don't do that on this forum do we) or trying to mess around with keygen's etc then I'm not sorry it doesn't work.

Are you using W7 build 7000 ?

If you are using a LEGAL version of office then sorry to the reference to "torrents" etc. However Office 2007 is such an important product for Microsoft -- especially in the corporate area -- I find it really strange that there is a problem with this. This is the FIRST program I would have expected Microsoft to have got 100% correct.

However try downloading a trial version from the MS site -- if this installs then just update it with your version and activate with your product key.

I have Office 2007 Enterprise and everything seems to work except Groove. I imported my account just like I have done when moving to other computers, and it just will not download the workspaces. On startup I have recieved message that Firewall was blocking and do I want Groove to fix, Click yes and it still doesn't work. I have disabled the Firewall and tried that as well and it still doesn't work.

Tried vista compatibility mode and getting error 1935 everytime. Seems related to .Net not installed or corrupted. Tried to reinstall .net which is embeded in Windows 7 with no success. In control panel when I try to activate Windows features I am getting another error "Al features where not successfully installed"
Will be really happy if I can run a version of Office with W7.

The only issue that I was having with Office 2007 was in outlook. When I tried to restore my pst files, I would get a BSOD and then I would have to start all over with the setup again. But its working fine now.

I've had this problem with a couple of our test machines. Each of them failed to install Office until I loaded up the Task Manager and found an MSIEXEC process (even after the install had canceled). I ended the process and I was able to install it right away.

I can add to this, and it may give someone a clue as to why it is happening, I have two machines side by side, both are Pentium 4's, one is 2.4 ghz and has only one monitor and is dual boot with XP, I loaded Office 2007 Enterprise on it and ev en istalled it over the XP instalation to save room and it works fine, office in XP still works fin as well. Then the other machine is a pentium 4 2.6 ghz, has two monitors with the desktop across both monitors, and is dual boot with XP, yet I cant install Office 2007 enterprise on it, I keep getting errors even with a clean install. I cant work it out.

I have a full version of Office 2007 Premium and I am trying to install it on a full version of Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. The install hangs on a 1935 error (like a few others on this post). The help takes me to a problem with Microsoft.net Framework. I tried to download and install it, but Windows 7 said that you have to do this through Control Panel>Programs and Features>Turn Windows Features on or off. This window never loads anything. I am stuck. How do i get Microsoft.net Framework back short of wiping the computer and starting fresh?

Just as a little background, I also had a problem installing AVG Free Anti Virus 9 software. This program install was hanging on "downloading and installing third part software." Help was telling me there was a problem with the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and needed to be reinstalled. This install also hangs on an error. Help on this install wanted me to edit User Account Control Settings to never notify me of changes to the computer and try again. It ends that annoying popup and gray out when installing programs that started with VISTA, I don't think it really installed either.

I ended up doing a custom install of AVG Free to remove e-mail scanning (no e-mail software will be used on it anyway) and something else. The program installed fine after this and has been working fine with out the extra features. Is this related? Are the "extra features" preventing me from installing Office 2007?

Is this a common problem. Sounds like at least 50% of us on this post are having the problem. BTW, OpenOffice works just fine for me. It just doesn't translate the new .docx documents perfectly.

Are you logged in as the Owner account in Windows XP home when installing? Have you shut down all other running software, utilities/antivirus when running Office 2007 setup? If you copy the CD to a folder on your hard drive can you run setup?

Thanks, but no thanks. I am running Windows 7. As was mentioned in my previous posts. That is also why this website is named windows7forums.com. I had administrator capabilities on the account. But all this is nether here nor there. I gave up and reinstalled Windows 7. Everything installed fine after that.

This problem popped up with the early Betas, but I though it had gone away with the RTM.
You can try this solution, from Microsoft, but the registry entry does not exist in the RTM.
Open regedit
navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions

Rename MachineThrottling to _MachineThrottling
