Windows 7 Office Standard 2007 Install Fails

Essentially, nothing happens. The message, after the disc enters the CD drive is "setup has stopped working." There's no explanation.

I copied the install bundle to the hard drive and get the same failure when attempting to activiate setup.exe. Any help will be appreciated. It's difficult to proceed without Outlook.

It's an upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate from XP SP3. The files appear to be good; I copied them to the hard drive and tried to install from there with exactly the same negative result. I would guess the problem could be a corrupt installer, but all else seems to install OK

Can you install Java or Adobe Reader they use windows installer if they install fine it is not a problem with the installer.
also open event viewer the run command is eventvwr.msc go to errors find the error from the install and read what happened then post what it says
