I work for Acer tech support. Lately we have gotten a lot of calls about CD/DVD and Blu-Ray devices not showing up after windows 7 upgrade.
We usally recommend BIOS and chipset driver updates first, then a clean install if drivers doesnt take care of the problem. But now the custumers that have done a clean install have begun calling back because this doesnt solve the problem. We have directed the problem to Acer and are still awaiting an answer from them (they are not the fastest guys in the world to solve issues like this).
When it comes to XP and Vista we solve this problem with a register edit fix. This fix doesnt work with W7. Does anyone know of a similar fix for W7? This issue is not directed at all Acer computers and neither on any specific optic device, hence diffrent optic devices are delivered with Acer computers including Blu-Ray devices.
